A common reaction to the first movement of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata (often this is the only movement known) is to find it beautiful but too sad to listen to very often.

The ‘Moonlight’ sonata is one of those pieces that’s as much about the spaces between the notes as it is the notes themselves.
I don’t find it depressing. It reminds me of standing outside at night with a soft wind playing….
Yes I do, it relaxes me rather than depresses me
I love it….I used to try to play the opening movement on the piano….I have not done that for a while, though. It has been a while since the last time I listened to it, as well….although I have a few recordings of it in my CD collection.
I love most piano music….
